A nanny who was secretly filmed subjecting a 18-month-old child to a horrific beating has pleaded guilty to child abuse.

A video of Jolly Tumuhirwe, 22, beating, kicking and standing on the toddler after she was sick caused outrage when it was posted online in Uganda.

She was charged in court with the torture of the child, where she pleaded with the girl's parents to forgive her.

Eric Kamanzi, had installed the camera at his home, in Nakawa, after growing concerned for his daughter's safety.

“We took her to the hospital for medical checkup and she is ok," her mother told the Daily Monitor at the time of the attack.

Mr Kamanzi reported the incident to police on November 13.

Tumuhirwe, who was not represented by a lawyer in court, could now face 15 years in prison or a fine of about £260 - or both.

According to the BBC, the baby's father broke down in court, the the capital Kampala, when the maid said she was sorry.

Sentencing is expected on Wednesday, December 10.
