Pastor accused of defilement floors state’s lawyers as court frees him for good

A 32-year-old pastor who was accused of defiling a 13-year-old girl at Tabora in Accra narrowly escaped imprisonment on Monday after an Accra Circuit Court acquitted and discharged him of the charges proffered against him, GNA reports.

The court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku said the state failed to prove beyond reasonable doubts a case of defilement against Pastor David Batul, hence the decision to free him completely for good.

The Head Pastor of Word is Power Salvation Ministries was arrested On January 3 last year based on the aforementioned allegation.

A team of state Prosecutors led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Agnes Boafo told the court that a social worker who resides in Lapaz filed a complaint with the police, alleging that the man of God had sexually abused his niece.

The prosecution said that the alleged victim who attends the Word is Power Salvation Ministries at Tabora with her cousin was sent during the month of December 2017, to take food to the pastor.

It added that when the alleged victim arrived, Pastor David Batul allegedly grabbed her, inserted his finger into her genitalia and eventually had sexual intercourse with her.

The alleged victim narrated her ordeal to the complainant later when he interrogated her upon observing some changes in her mannerism.

The complainant then proceeded to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police and lodged a complaint, leading to the arrest of the man of God.

However, having gone through the full trial process, Pastor David Batul is now a free man completely and for good regarding this particular, case as he has been discharged and acquitted.
