Interdicted Police officer turns armed robber

The interdicted officer and his accomplice were arrested after they succeeded in robbing one Nicolas Baffoe of GHC7, 800.

The constable and his accomplice, 35-year-old businessman, Yaw Boadi, who lives at Abeka Lapaz in Accra were arrested after they succeeded in robbing one Nicolas Baffoe of GHC7, 800.

The Police constable suspect was with the Kasoa police station prior to his interdiction recently after joining the police service about five years ago.

The Agona Swedru District Police Commander, Superintendent Seth Panti Yirenkyi said the robbery incident occurred at about 1300hours on Tuesday at Mensakrom, near Agona Duakwa. He said Nicolas Baffoe, who resides in Agona Odoben came to the Agona Swedru branch of HFC Bank, to withdrawn GHC7, 800 and after the transaction, he boarded a commercial vehicle heading to his destination. The Superintendent Yirenkyi revealed that the interdicted police constable Asamoah and Boadi dressed in military uniforms and chased the commercial vehicle in a taxi cab with registration number 5248-17, and crossed it at Mensakrom.

He said the two suspects ordered the victim to come down from the vehicle to answer fraud charges in which he was involved.

He added that, the victim who looked traumatized and confused narrated his ordeal to some commercial motorbike (Okada) riders at Mensakrom and Agona Duakwa.

The okada riders reportedly sent the information to their colleagues at Agona Otopiase who quickly barricaded the road and the two suspects were arrested, but the taxi driver escaped.

Superintendent Yirenkyi further disclosed that, the very taxi cab used by the suspects was used to rob a student of the University of Education, Winneba of his GHC 7,000 on the streets of Agona Swedru last week.

The interdicted police officer and his local sandals vendor accomplice are currently in police custody pending further investigations.
