Two people are dead after a lone gunman opened fire outside a police headquarters in Sydney, Australia according to reports.

Reports suggest a lone gunman dressed all in black opened fire, killing a police worker on the pavement.

Police and security guards then returned fire, bringing down the shooter.

Aerial images from Channel Seven news showed what appeared to be two bodies covered in white sheets outside the HQ of New South Wales police.

The Daily Telegraph reports that police said one victim of the shooting “was a public servant working for NSW Police.”

“He was shot before (the) shooter was killed,” they report.

The Daily Telegraph in Sydney suggested police had been tipped off about the attack shortly before it began.

A witness reported hearing "six or seven" shots during the incident. It is not thought to be terror-related, the paper claimed.

It said officers were still to establish the identity of those killed.
