The wicked son who stabbed his father to death few weeks ago in Lagos has been remanded in prison custody.

Nelson Oamen

Nelson Oamen, the 35-year old man who murdered his father, and removed his heart at the family's Abesan Estate, Ipaja, Lagos State home, was yesterday, Monday, October 5, remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons by an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court, pending when his case would be heard on November 5.

The verdict was handed down by the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Folasade Botoku, who said the plea of the accused would not be taken as the court lacked the jurisdiction to prosecute murder cases.

Recall that Pulse reported how, on September 18, Oamen, suspected to be acting under the influence of drugs, had sneaked into his 74-year-old father's apartment at Block 272 in the estate, stabbed the old man to death, and thereafter, removed the heart of the septuagenarian, before escaping.

But on Tuesday, September 29, Oamen turned himself in at the Ipaja Police Division, blaming the devil for his actions. He was later transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Akinlabi, had earlier told the court that the accused used a broken bottle to stab his 75-year old father, Sunday Oamen, ripping open his stomach.

“He claimed that his father refused to give him money to purchase a bus and on the said day, he went into his father’s room where he was sleeping and stabbed him with a broken bottle,” Akinlabi said.

The offence, according to Akinlabi, contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which prescribes death sentence for convicts.
