Dog Thieves Fined GH¢1,800

Five Persons in the Asuokoko community have been fine of GH¢1,800 for stealing and eating a dog belonging to their neighbor

The five friends were convicted after they pleaded guilty to the crime that was charged against them.

The Nyinahin Magistrate Court,  presided over by Mr. Sam Nibi, has ordered five persons convicted of dog theft, to pay a total fine of GH¢1,800.

The accused persons, Philip Alimu, Francis Yaw Gyan, Kwaku Addai, Father Francis and Kwaku Dagadu, would each pay GH¢360, failure to do so will end them in prison for  days 45.

The prosecution, police Inspector Daniel Otabil told the court that the incident happened on November 20, 2014.

He said the five had stolen the animal at Asuokoko, a farming community near Sreso-Timpom in the Atwima-Mponua District, and took it to another village, Dodowa, where they slaughtered and ate the meat.

The owner of the dog, Mallam Awudu Rahman, did some investigation after he has notice that his dog could not be found, his investigation lead him to the accused persons as the main suspect, he said.

Inspector Otabil  said  Rahman lodge in a complaint to the police and base on his investigation the suspects were arrested.
