GE Garages powers innovation in Nigeria

GE Garages in Lagos, Nigeria may have wrapped up this week, but its legacy will live on through the buzz and excitement created at the events over the past three weeks.

Over 500 entrepreneurs, innovators, students, business and government dignitaries passed through the doors and spent time learning about, and interacting with, technologies that can turn innovative prototypes into real solutions. GE Garages morphed into a co-creation hub as budding entrepreneurs collaborated with technicians to use 3D printers and other advanced technologies to fine-tune their inventions.

Many of the novel ideas presented were developed through necessity fired by the frustration of living with rolling blackouts in Nigeria. From darkness comes light, though, as budding innovators developed nifty solutions to power their homes and lives. Take the teen entrepreneur whose smart idea it is to turn urine into power, while at the same time producing clean water. This is proof that entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Lagos.

Sharing his experience at GE Garages, Lagos-based entrepreneur Saheed Adepoju said: “This experience has been transformative. I have had the opportunity to use world-class facilities such as 3D printers to develop my prototype. I have also met with different people in the industry.”
