5 home remedies to combat dry scalp

Dry scalp makes hair look lifeless, frizzy, dull, easily break and fall out.

Sometimes, you will find some flakes of dead skin, like dandruff. However, dry scalp is not dandruff. Your hair can also look lifeless, frizzy, dull, and easily break and fall out.

Dry scalp can even lead to hair loss, if this condition is left untreated. Here are five home remedies for treating a dry and itchy scalp.

1. Bananas

Bananas are a great home remedy for an itchy scalp and they will condition your hair too.

What you need

  • Banana

  • Simply mash up two ripe bananas and massage the pulp into your hair and scalp. Leave it to sit on your hair for about half an hour and the banana will nourish and moisturize your scalp and it will reduce the itching.

2. Aloe vera

Aloe vera has amazing moisturising properties that will very quickly provide relief from a dry scalp.

  • Aloe vera
  • Mild shampoo

Method

  • Massage some fresh aloe vera gel into your scalp and leave it on for fifteen minutes before you wash it out again with a mild shampoo. It will hydrate your scalp and you will probably notice the difference after just a single application.

3. Lemon juice

Lemon juice has antiseptic properties that will fight the itchiness of a dry scalp and it’s also a good treatment for dandruff too.

What you need

  • Lemon juice

Method

  • You should apply lemon juice on its own to your scalp, or you could mix it with some the other moisturising ingredients we have mentioned here. Remember to thoroughly wash lemon juice out of your hair, though, because it can have a bleaching effect when exposed to the sun.

4. Avocado

Avocado is another natural ingredient that can be used to nourish and hydrate the scalp.

Method

  • Mash up the pulp of two ripe avocados and massage it into your hair and scalp. Leave it on for half an hour before you wash it out again. Repeat the treatment on a weekly basis and it will soon clear up a dry and itchy scalp.

5. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is a great moisturiser and it helps lock moisture into the skin, so it will cure a dry scalp and, with regular use.

You can rub the oil into your scalp and leave it to sit for half an hour or, you could melt a little of the oil and add to your regular shampoo.
