Think of your hair like your best silk dress. Avoid bad hair treatment habits that can cause massive hair loss.

1. Stop abusing your hair with styling tools

The biggest culprits behind damaged hair are hot tools. Stop over-styling your hair. Instead, adopt a few natural methods to curl and straighten your hair.

Applying heat to your hair can damage it, so it's best to let your hair air dry instead.

  • If you want to use the blow dryer sometimes, use it on a cool setting.
  • When you do use heat styling devices, be sure to put a protective serum in your hair beforehand.

2. Avoid tight ponytails

ponytails and similar hairdos look awesome, but tight hairstyles cause stress on the roots, and the friction leads to breakage. Try different and loose hairstyles.

3. Avoid cotton pillows

Ditch your cotton pillowcases and  for satin fabrics to keep your hair healthy and hydrated. Satin and silk fabrics have a softer surface, they cause less friction as compared to cotton fabrics and thus, you wake up with fewer or no tangles at all.

4. Avoid brushing your hair while it's wet

Wet hair tends to stretch more and break easily as compared to dry hair. Your hair is similarly fragile and needs to be treated with care to stay healthy.

  • After washing your hair, gently pat it dry with a towel instead of wringing it out. Let it finish air drying.
  • Use a comb instead of a brush. Forcing a brush through tangled hair can cause it to rip and break. Use a wide-toothed comb to gently work through the tangles.
