It is estimated that about s7 percent of males are affected by the condition known as known as Peyronie's disease.

It is not exactly clear what causes Peyronie's disease, but it is generally thought to be as a result of repeated injury to the penis through sexual, sporting among other activities as well as accidents.

In a Peyronie's disease resulting from injury to the penis, when it becomes erect, the region with the scar tissue doesn't stretch, and the penis bends or becomes disfigured and possibly painful.

However, some curvatures in penises occur without any of the aforementioned factors, and researchers are investigating to ascertain whether the condition could be inherited or is has a link to any other health condition.

Dr Alexander Pastuszak, who led the study, reportedly said "While they’re significant in the sexual and reproductive life-cycles of these patients, linking them to other disorders suggest that these men should be monitored for development of these disorders disproportionately in contrast to the rest of the population.

"Nobody has made these associations before."
