The good news is, if you are willing to make small changes each day, you can get that glowing skin you dream of. It’s time to try these tips:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Break bad habits by keeping hands off of your face. The bacteria on your fingers is only making your skin problems worse.
  • Wash your pillowcases once a week. Bacteria on your bedding can cause breakouts.
  • Dry your skin with a soft t-shirt, instead of a towel. Some towels are too abrasive and cause tiny tears in the skin, where bacteria makes its way in.
  • After washing your face, use a toner that will clean pores without stripping skin of your natural oils.
  • Choose makeup that covers, as well as heals your acne.
  • Clean off makeup brushes once a week to keep bacteria from being spread.
  • Clean off your phone with an alcohol pad. Phones spend too much time near and on our faces to not be clean.
  • Moisturize with a face oil. While those with blemishes tend to shy away from oil, it can stop your skin from creating excess sebum, which causes breakouts.
  • If breakouts are located around your hairline, change out shampoos. Your skin might be reacting to the formula.
  • Incorporate lots of leafy greens into your diet.
  • Eliminate sugar and dairy from your diet to see if that makes a difference in your skin.
  • Exfoliate your face with a chemical exfoliating product a few times a week.
  • Use a skin clearing mask once a week.
  • Never go to bed without taking off your makeup.
  • Be sure to get about 8 hours of sleep each night.
  • Exercise at least three times a week.
  • Always massage lotions and cleansers into the skin in an upward, circular motion. This allows active ingredients to quickly penetrate the skin’s surface and remove trapped oils, dirt, and bacteria.
  • Apply makeup in a downward motion so the makeup sits on top of the skin and won’t be lodged in the pores.
  • Once a week, go a full day without makeup. This provides a rest from fragrances, allergens, preservatives, and oils.
