8 uses for baking soda in your home

Aside from making your baking rise, that container of baking soda has dozens of uses in your house. From brushing you teeth, to cleaning your toilet, here are some suggestions for this wonder product.

You can use it to freshen your breath.

Mix one teaspoon of it in a glass of water, then swish it around in your mouth, but make sure you rise well.

Exfoliate your skin

Forget those expensive exfoliators, your handy baking soda will do the trick, just mix three parts baking soda to one part water, then rub it on your skin – face included – in a circular motion.

Clear your drains

Don't go throwing nasty chemicals down your drains, they will end up in the ocean. Instead, use a combination of baking soda and white vinegar. First, sprinkle about ½ cup of baking soda down your drain, leave it for ten minutes, then pour the same amount of white vinegar down it. Pour water down, if this doesn't unblock the drain, repeat it a few times.

Keep your hair brush and comb clean

Baking soda is great to help naturally remove dirt and  build up on your combs and brushes. Just soak your hairbrushes in a solution of water and baking soda , try 2 teaspoons of baking soda to a cup of water, you can leave them overnight, but make sure you rinse and dry thoroughly.

Refresh your feet

A baking soda solution will help soothe and soften those feet that carry you around all day. Just mix a few tablespoons into a tub of warm water. You could add some lavender or peppermint essential oil as well, then sit back and let them soak.

Clean your kids' messes from the walls

If your child has decided to leave you some art on the wall with crayons, then baking soda will come to the rescue. Just sprinkle some onto a damp cloth and rub lightly, then wipe the wall with a clean, dry cloth.

Deodorize your kitchen

Baking soda is great for absorbing smells. You can put an open container of it in your fridge, which you should change every two months. Likewise, you can use it in the bottom of your trashcan, just sprinkle it in there.

Clean your toilet

Throw ½ cup of baking soda in your toilet, then leave it for 10 minutes. Follow this with ½ cup of plain white vinegar, it will bubble for a while. Leave it for another ten minutes, then scrub, then flush.
