Getting sponsorship for events difficult

Speaking to Pulse.com.gh after a successful The Lords of the Ribs Season 3 comedy show, Nabil said although it is a big challenge, his event house will still organise events.

“Sponsorship is difficult to come by these days but we still doing our best in our fields. If they see the prospects, fine; if they don’t, we move on,” he said.

This year’s edition featured Derrick Kobina Bonney (DKB), OB, Odega, Akpos, Bovi, Buchi and a host of others while Amanzeba, Irene Logan, Praye, Ackay Blay and Nii Funny treated patrons to good musical performances.

According to Nabil, although attendance was good, he expected more.

“From our stables, we produce and direct great events so we believe we gave out a good one again considering the feedback we have received so far. Attendance was just okay but we expected more. I won’t say Kwahu affected the show because there are lots of Ghanaians living in Accra alone and I’m not sure half or a quarter went to Kwahu,” he indicated.

Asked if his event house was considering hosting only Ghanaian comedians in subsequent editions, Nabil Alhassan responded, “Not sure it is going to happen anytime soon. The comedy industry is still growing.”

Many had said that the Ghanaian comedy industry was in the doldrums but for some time now, that perception seems to have changed following outstanding performances from some Ghanaian comedians.

Some event houses which had little or no sponsorship for their events had no option than to call them off. More often than not, marketers would not want to take risk with new ventures for fear of not making any significant benefits. In addition, event organisers may be restricting their offerings and may have to go for a batter trade.
