Fashion designer speaks on brand, inspirations & fashion industry

Jason Boateng is fast becoming a force to reckon with within the international fashion scene with mega star clients such asRihanna, Serayah, Toni Braxton and Angela Simmons.

Jason who was at LFDW 2015, started out as a stylist, and has since diversified into designing with his womenswear line and a successful number of collections under his belt.

The Ghanaian designer sat down with Pulse for a chat about his brand, inspiration and the fashion industry.

Boateng explained that he was into fashion at about the age of 5 and he always knew that he wanted to be a fashion designer but that he didn’t start styling until he was 21, “to try and learn more about the industry, whilst I was going to university.”

In speaking of his designs, he starts with a design before fabric shopping. He also stated that his designs can’t be replicated because he never takes the easy way out, due to the intensity of the work that goes into it, with intricate detailings and bead work that could take days.

As far as the Nigerian fashion industry goes, he expressed his joy at seeing growth in detail, practicality, creativity and packaging at the LFDW 2015 and thinks Nigeria can compete with the rest of the fashion world.

Boateng went on to say fashion week in Africa contribute to the world fashion industry due to the positive feedback it’s been getting.

In talking about what inspires him to create, he sighted labels such as Balmain, Gucci and Tom Ford, who love to do a lot of bead work and detailing. Although expensive and time consuming, he finds it rewarding.

Finally, Boateng revealed his top five fashion icons as, Karl Lagerfeld, Silvia Fendi, Balmian, Christian Dior and Fendi.
