Research shows that reheating some of your favourite foods in the microwave can be dangerous to our health, especially if they were stored incorrectly beforehand.
Recommended articles
Here are some of those foods and why you should refrain from reheating them in the microwave.
- Chicken
With its high protein content, chicken can cause digestive problems if you reheat it after a day or two.
The best way to consume stored chicken is to put it in a cold salad or sandwich.
If you'd prefer to reheat your meat, make sure that it's thoroughly cooked; the inside should be piping hot!
- Eggs
Reheating eggs can cause them to become more toxic and wreak havoc in your digestive system.
- Mushroom
In general, mushroom should be consumed the same day due to its protein composition. Mushrooms deteriorate once you cut them up.
- Rice
Eating rice stored at room temperature can give you food poisoning because of the spores of bacteria present in rice which are still present after reheating, according to Food Standards Agency.
- Lettuce
Lettuce is best eaten raw and should never be reheated as the nitrates can cause food poisoning.
- Potatoes
Potatoes are very tricky, they lose their nutritional value once you leave them at room temperature for too long.
