Despite popular fears, air travel is statistically the safest means of transportation.
Middle seats are the safest on a plane
According to a Time Magazine study, survival rates in aisle seats in the middle of the cabin are 57% worse than in the safest seats.
Still, there's no doubt that many people still have a morbid fear of travelling by air, and for somewhat good reason too - the survival rate of plane crashes is usually minimal and in many cases, none.
So where is the safest place to seat on a plane?
Time Magazine did a study on this as they looked at a study of accidents since 1985 with both fatalities and survivors.
According to the find, survival rates in aisle seats in the middle of the cabin are 57% worse than in the safest seats.
It further said the back of the aircraft is safer than the front. But the overall safest seats are the middle seats in the rear third of the plane which have the lowest fatality rate (28%, compared with 32% for a window or aisle seat.)
Conclusion - the middle seats are the safest seats in general.
