A New Bill & Ted Movie Is Totally Happening

Truly excellent news has arrived: A third Bill & Ted movie is finally happening! Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, who played the titular characters in Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure and its supremely excellent sequel Bill & Teds Bogus Journey, made the announcement in a video today.

A New 'Bill & Ted' Movie Is Totally Happening

The threequel, entitled Bill & Ted Face the Music, will start production this year and is currently scheduled to be released in summer 2020. Set 30 years after their first adventure, this film will revisit former teen rockers Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Theodore Ted Logan in adulthood.

Yet to fulfill their rock n roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure, when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe, states the films official synopsis. Along the way, they will be helped by their families, old friends, and a few music legends.

Bill and Ted became cult comedy characters in 1989s Excellent Adventure, which saw the pair travel through time, meeting historical figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Billy the Kid, and Greek philosopher Socrates. In the 1991 sequel, Bill & Teds Bogus Journey, the two best friends ended up in the afterlife and crossed paths with none other than the Grim Reaper, in a famous sequence that paid loving, irreverent homage to Ingmar Bergmans The Seventh Seal.

In the announcement video, Reeves and Winter are standing in front of the Hollywood Bowl, and they make repeated allusions to how they will never play the venue, which means we are all but guaranteed to see Bill and Ted head-banging on its stage when the new movie comes out on August 21, 2020.
