Here's What Chris Hemsworth Really Thought About Those First Two Thor Movies

It's OK to admit you didn't love the first two Thor movies; Chris Hemsworth has his problems with them too. In an interview with Yahoo ahead of Avengers: Endgame, the actor admitted to being "underwhelmed" by his take on the character during his earlier appearances in the MCU.

Chris Hemsworth's Honest Opinion on Thor 1 & 2

When we came into Ragnarok, I was sort of exhausted of what Id been doing and a little sort of underwhelmed by what I was putting out there, you know? He said, adding that he felt he'd put himself in a box in terms of what he could do with his performance. Hemsworth was quick to clarify that he didn't blame directors Kenneth Branagh or Alan Taylor, but himself.

By the time it came to shoot Thor: Ragnarok, Hemsworth had already played the God of Thunder four times, in Thor, Thor: The Dark World, The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, so a little fatigue is understandable. He credits Ragnarok director Taika Waititi with bringing a new, different kind of energy and perspective to the franchise.

"On Ragnarok, it was about breaking all the rules, and kinda going as soon as it feels familiar, do something different, and Taika, the director, had the same vision, and the same, I guess, guts to just roll the dice," he said. That was so liberating and freeing, you know, to sort of break away who the character was prior. Ragnarok ended up being the most successful film in the Thor trilogy, making $854 million globally and earning critical acclaim following the negatively reviewed The Dark World.

This isn't the first time Hemsworth has been brutally honest about his own movies; in an August 2018 interview with GQ , he referred to Thor: The Dark World as simply "the second one," and called it "meh." He is presumably much more excited about Avengers: Endgame, which will see Thor and his fellow surviving teammates go up against super-villain Thanos again.
