Sophie Turner Says Fan Petition to Remake ‘Game of Thrones’ Final Season Is ‘Disrespectful’

Sophie Turner Doesn't Like 'Thrones' Fan Petition

The Game of Thrones series finale aired this past Sunday. Over 1 million people have signed an online petition to remake the show's final season. Actress Sophie Turner has called the petition "disrespectful".

Whether you liked, loved, or hated the final season of Game of Thrones , there are two things that we can take away from the whole thing for certain: First, it cost a whole lot of time, effort, and work from everyone involved, including the writers, cast, crew, and more. And second, they're not re-making the season. Get over it.

Sophie Turner , who of course played Sansa Stark for all eight seasons of HBO's fantasy epic, responded to the (frankly, embarrassing) 'fan' petition to remake season 8 in an interview with The New York Times .

"All of these petitions and things like that-I think it's disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season," she said. "Like 50-something night shoots . So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it's not what they want to see is just disrespectful."

The petition being referenced has somehow gained nearly 1.4 million signatures at this article's time of publishing, and continues to gain traction. What that vocal minority seems to be forgetting is that no one's telling them they have to like what happened in the last season, or how it was done. But the fact of the matter is that countless people put an enormous amount of work into that project, and for people to discount that for the sake of pettiness is not right.

Turner didn't expect everyone to like the ending, and while she understands why people are trying to push back, that doesn't make it right.

"People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn't go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel," she said.

Turner has stayed busy in the last few months-in addition to the final season of Thrones, she's also married her partner of two years , musician Joe Jonas, and later this month will star in the final installment of 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise, Dark Phoenix.

For what it's worth, Turner loved her character's Thrones ending, which saw Sansa declare independence for her Winterfell, and in short order coronated as Queen of the North.

"I loved it. It's the only place that she really, truly feels safe," the 23-year-old actress said. "It's the place that she's the most capable of ruling. She would be a fair and loving ruler, and it's what she's been striving for this whole series: to go back home, to protect her home. And finally she has that."
