When you're in charge of a wildly popular and wildly complicated show like Game of Thrones, it can't be easy to come up with an ending that makes everyone happy.
That being said, the HBO series' eight and final season really seems to be disappointing fans, from that super dark Battle of Winterfell to Cersei and Jaime Lannister's unsatisfying deaths to Daenerys embodying an outdated "hysterical woman" trope . It kinda feels like the long-awaited Cleganebowl (proceeded by Qyburn's unintentionally-hilarious demise ) has been the only real highlight so far.
And if these interviews are any indication, the cast feels the same way. Watch interviews where the Game of Thrones actors talk about the final season , and you'll notice that none of them seem particularly enthused about the way the show ends. I mean, maybe they're just sad that it's over, but... No. It's more than that. Watch the 3-minute clip below, and I think you'll agree: They really seem to dislike season 8.
The most revealing is arguably the very first interview in the mash-up, when Daenerys actress Emilia Clarke is asked if she's "happy" with how the season wraps up. A look of fear and intense awkwardness takes over Clarke's face, and the interviewer presses her on the fact that she didn't say yes.
"Best season ever!" Clarke says in what sounds like a very sarcastic tone.
Here's a 3-minute clip of the Game of Thrones actors sounding disappointed with season 8. Enjoy:
