Why John Wick 3's New Character Posters Have People Excited About the Next Chapter

A new batch of character posters were released for action sequel John Wick 3 this week, showcasing, among others, screen legends Laurence Fishburne and Anjelica Huston.

The lush visuals depict characters from the franchise with codenames like The Elder, The Bowery King and The Adjudicator," all of whom play suitably shadowy roles in the criminal underworld in which the films take place.

But it was the poster for the assassin known as Tick Tock Man, played by Jason Mantzoukas, which prompted the most fervent reaction, with fans making multiple references to the actors comedy credits, including wild card cop Adrian Pimento from Brooklyn Nine-Nine and barely sentient robo-clone Derek from The Good Place.

The comically unhinged Adrian Pimento would not be at all out of place in the bone-cracking, blood-spilling John Wick series. Maybe Tick Tock Man is just one of his aliases, and this movie takes place in a giant shared sitcom universe?

John Wick 3, or to give it its full title, John Wick: Chapter 3-Parabellum, follows the titular character (played by Keanu Reeves) as he attempts to make a getaway with a bounty on his head, following the events of John Wick: Chapter 2. He is assisted in his journey by assassin Sofia (Halle Berry).

The first John Wick movie came out in 2014, and told the simple, relatable tale of a retired hitman taking up arms again to avenge his puppy. It was a surprise hit, making more than four times its production budget worldwide. Chapter 2 followed in 2017, expanding the world of the Continental hotel and its rogues gallery of assassins. Its unclear whether this third film is the final installment of a trilogy, or if theres scope for additional John Wick stories.

John Wick: Chapter 3 will be released on May 17.
