Will Chris Hemsworth Actually Be in 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'?

Avengers: Endgame drew a pretty solid line under the last decade of Marvel movies, bringing Captain America, Black Widow and Iron Man's respective stories to a definitive close. But one character's journey was left purposely open-ended in the film's final moments: Thor, the God of Thunder.

Will Thor Be in 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'?

Having spent much of Endgame getting over his defeat at the hands of Thanos, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) ended the movie by relinquishing the Asgardian throne, leaving his people in Valkyrie's capable hands, and going off in search of a new purpose with the Guardians of the Galaxy - or as he nicknamed them, the "Asgardians of the Galaxy." Which felt like the perfect set-up for the third instalment in the Guardians franchise - after all, Hemsworth honed the comedic side of the character in Thor: Ragnarok, and his larger-than-life persona and powers feel better-suited in some ways to the space-faring, swashbuckling Guardians than the earthbound Avengers .

And it turns out, at least one cast member agrees. Dave Bautista, who plays Drax and shared scenes with Chris Hemsworth in Infinity War and Endgame, has said that he thinks the Australian actor would make a "perfect" addition to the Guardians. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter , he recalled the great time they had together on-set:

If we can all do Infinity War and Endgame together It was a whos who there and there were no issues. It was pretty amazing to see. Thats a trickle-down thing. That comes from the top. Marvel set the tone for an environment, and thats what the environment is. I think they take all those things into consideration when people are being hired, and it was incredible to see a whos who of Hollywood, all interacting together in a very pleasant atmosphere. There were no egos; there was no ego-clashing or attitude. If there was, I didnt witness it. I think Chris Hemsworth is a great guy; hes a fun-loving Aussie. He is what youd expect him to be. Hes very funny, pleasant and upbeat. Hes very social, so I think that would be a perfect fit to be honest with you. I think Hemsworth is hysterical.

The future of the Guardians franchise was unclear for a while, after director James Gunn was fired by Marvel Studios. Bautista was one of Gunn's most vocal supporters, and now that he has been re-hired, it's confirmed that the Guardians' ship, the Benatar, will fly once more. Although Gunn has officially stated that, while "Asgardians of the Galaxy" might be a fun nickname, it will most definitely not be the title of Vol. 3.
