6 things you should know before shopping for wedding gowns

You can always change your wedding rings but the wedding gown will forever be hanged on the wall.

  • The earlier you can shop, the better

We recommended shopping for eight to ten months in advance. This will ensure your selection isn’t limited based on your ordering time frame, and, just in case you need multiple shopping trips, you’ll have plenty of extra shopping time.

  • Limit your entourage

It is a bad idea to go for a dress fitting with more than two people; you will be pressured by too many opinions. Enlist one or two of your closest friends or family members to help you select the best wedding gown.

  • Shop for your body

When trying on dresses, focus less on your weight and more on the shape and frame of your body. Your weight may be constantly fluctuating, especially during highly stressful situations, so don’t let that be the deciding factor in choosing a dress. Concentrate on finding silhouettes that accentuate the features you love and make you feel amazing.

  • Do your research, but avoid over-pinning

Search popular wedding blogs to have an idea of the type of wedding dress to wear on your big day. Limit your search to dress that fits your budget so that you don’t end up disappointed.

  • Don’t walk in the door without a budget and general style in mind

Before you go to the shop or fashion designer, you must have a budget which you are ready to stick to. Your budget, taste, and over-all wedding vision are some of the first questions you will be asked, so come prepared. Don’t forget to factor the perfect shoe, veil, and accessories in your budget.

  • Be open-minded

Have an idea of what you want your fairy tale wedding to be but give the designer the opportunity to make suggestions. Your consultant may try something different on you because nothing is clicking" — and that's when you might find a dress you love.
