No one has been able to define love. Some say love is the essence of life, of purpose and of will.  Known to be a strong force to reckon with, some speculate love might be all you need. A mother’s love is said to be the strongest of all.

Others also swear that love is more than a feeling. Things are done, the risk is taken, all in efforts to prove our love. Could come to a futile end if it is not reciprocated. Sadly, when lust is mistaken for love, a lot of people are left broken, hurt and vengeful. This could set a chain of events, possibly turning them into loveless souls.

I believe there is no prescribed place to find love. Some have found love in the most obvious of places. While others too cannot even speak of the places where they met their partners. But since love is known to be more than chemistry, more on a deeper level of trust, adoration and respect. Can we find it in mere dating apps?

I believe so, but does that really work out for everyone? Stories of online dating almost, always seem to end in tragedy. And there are the very fortunate ones (or should I say, “Lucky Ones”).

There are several incredible stories of online and dating apps relationship with very happy endings. Some even lead to marriage eventually. Unfortunately, these kinds of stories do not abound in our conservative Ghanaian society. It is not common to find couples whose stories start dating apps and end up in successful relationships.

When we speak of dating apps are slightly different from dating sites even though they are both online dating. Dating apps are more handy, efficient and fast. Also, you can customize these apps to suit your preferences. Dating apps are also programmed to show mutual friends or interest in your location/close to you. Dating sites can be a nuisance with all those spam messages. At least on the dating app, you only get messages from people you liked too.

Most Ghanaians don’t trust a lot of dealings that go on the internet or some kind of technology. And can we blame them for that?  Of course not! Not with all these fake identities and lifestyles that have become synonymous with the internet. From Ponzi schemes to catfishing (Catfishing is when someone pretends to be another person on the internet. It’s usually to get close to someone, others do this to become anonymous trolls) online. The average Ghanaian would very much avoid going on blind dates with a total stranger. Which is somewhat funny considering marriages were arranged some time ago.

Despite all negatives, some brave souls still venture into the world of dating apps. We have tons of Ghanaians signing up daily on dating apps such as Meet4U, Hitwe, Mingle2 and Sugarmommies Dating.

RATING

Ghanaians are known to be a bit conservative when it comes to things sexual/ intimate in nature. Yet, these apps keep gaining popularity, so I guess something must be right somewhere.

Try finding love on a dating app the next time you get ditched. But be careful and cautious especially when meeting the person for the first time. Take precautionary measures like meeting in a very neutral, public and open place, preferably have your meeting during daylight hours and do not share your home address/contact details unless you are absolutely sure about them.
