Rain continues to frustrate Australia in their bid for a series whitewash after day three of the third and final Test was abandoned without a ball being bowled in Sydney on Tuesday.

The covers were never taken off at the SCG as heavy downpour forced the loss of a full day's play by late afternoon, further threatening the chance of a result, with Australia leading 2-0.

It is the first time a whole day's play of Test cricket has been washed out at the SCG since 1990, when rain wreaked havoc between Australia and Pakistan on day five.

Only 11.2 overs were bowled as rain ruined day two on Monday, the touring Windies reaching 248-7.

West Indies duo Denesh Ramdin (30 not out) and Kemar Roach (0) remain unbeaten at the crease and are scheduled to resume their first innings on Wednesday, depending on weather.
