Ireland's Jamie Heaslip and Luke Fitzgerald assessed by Leinster

Injuries suffered by Jamie Heaslip and Luke Fitzgerald are being assessed by Leinster, while Cian Healy could return earlier than expected.

Leinster are waiting to discover the extent of injuries sustained by Ireland duo Jamie Heaslip and Luke Fitzgerald less than a month before the start of the Six Nations, while Cian Healy is expected to return in "a couple of weeks".

Number eight Heaslip suffered a head injury during Leinster's 22-9 Pro12 win at Ospreys on Friday and was unable to return to the field after failing to pass a head injury assessment.

Leinster's victory came at a further cost, as versatile back Fitzgerald damaged his shoulder just four weeks prior to the Six Nations opener against Wales at the Aviva Stadium.

Healy underwent knee surgery last week, but Leinster defence coach Kurt McQuilkin has hinted that the prop will be back in contention when Ireland start their Six Nations title defence on home soil.

He said: "Jamie took a bang on the head at the weekend, so he's going to follow the return to play protocols.

"Lukey Fitz took a stinger on the shoulder, so we're just going to assess him over the week and see how things go there."

McQuilkin added: "Cian Healy has had an elective procedure on his knee, so he'll be a couple of weeks off also."
