Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving has revealed a lack of sleep caused by bed bugs in his hotel room kept him out of action for the majority of Sunday's win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Irving officially left the game after nine minutes due to what the team called "flu-like symptoms". Despite his absence, the Cavs went on to claim a 115-92 victory.

"It was honestly from the bed bugs from the Hilton that we stayed at," Irving said after the Cavs' 96-88 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Monday.

"We came into the game and I was freaked out. I didn't get any sleep ... Started feeling nauseous."

The Skirvin Hilton in Oklahoma City, where the Cavaliers stayed, admitted to the bed bug problem.

Jessica Dustin, the hotel's director of rooms, said the bugs were isolated to the room Irving stayed in on Saturday.

"Unfortunately, every hotel at some point or the other has a case of the bed bugs," Dustin told The Oklahoman. "We were fortunate enough that he did report it to us immediately."

Irving returned to score 30 points against the Pistons but could not prevent the Cavs from slipping to 40-15 on the season.
