A former government appointee of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Francis Dodovi, has petitioned the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the Presiding Member (PM) and some other members of the Assembly over bribery and conflict of interest allegations.

According to Mr Dodovi, a a delegation led by the PM, Abraham Boadi, and the Convener of the Environmental Sub-Committee of the assembly, Nana Yaw Wiredu, were in Accra recently where they met and negotiated with an investor, Alphar Power Company Limited, on behalf of the assembly without the knowledge of the house.

The petition further alleged that the meeting was aimed at influencing a decision to secure a contract for the investor in the metropolis.

Some aggrieved members of the Assembly had earlier submitted a petition to the Chief Executive Officer of the KMA, Osei Asibey Antwi for action.

The petition alleged that the airfares of the assembly members were paid by the investor along with an amount of GH¢30,000 to the delegation. The investor allegedly promised to add GH¢200,000 later.

But in an interview with Graphic Online, Mr Boadi denied the bribery allegation. He, however, confirmed that he met the said investor in Accra at his request.

According to him, each member of the delegation was offered GH¢500 for transportation on their arrival at the Kumasi International Airport.

“In any case, the meeting was no secret. It was open to all except not all members could make it to Accra. Come to think of it, what kind of contract does Alphar Power want to bride us for GH¢200,000?” he asked.
