Rawlings not wanted at Mills' 3rd anniversary events - Cadman Mills

The family of late President Mills has cautioned Jerry John Rawlings not to attend any of Atta Mills events.

The family of late Professor John Evans Atta Mills has banned former President, Jerry John Rawlings from attending events to mark the 3 anniversary of the passing away of the former leader.

A statement warning the former President was issued by the brother of the late President, Cadman Mills who spoke on behalf of the family after a family meeting in his hometown, Otuam.

The increasing disparaging remarks from Rawlings, Cadman Mills said has necessitated the family jumping to the defense of their late kinsman and also warning Mr. Rawlings who, they beleive is not helping the late Law Professor rest in peace.

“…and also to let him [Rawlings] know that the family takes strong exception and to avoid any embarrassment….we ask him [Rawlings] to avoid any public occasion where we are commemorating the demise of him [Mills]…,” Cadman Mills told Adom FM.

Ghana’s former leader who died in the run up to the 2012 elections became the subject of discussion in the media once more after the former President labeled his death as a ‘good omen’ for the NDC which won the elections staged that year.

“…It is important for us to develop a historical memory of events. I said it over and over, NDC would have lost terribly had God not called the Prof [Mills]”, Mr. Rawlings said recently.

This comment, the family said was not in good taste and labeled it as among the least of comments it expected from the ex-military leader who had once claimed corruption triumphed under Prof Mills’ leadership.

Thus at a time when the family is preparing to commemorate the 3 anniversary of the departure of Prof Mills, the family said they would be delighted if President Rawlings absents himself from activities marking the anniversary.

“This is not the very first time he has made disparaging comments trying to belittle President Mills at any opportunity that he gets, attacking his integrity, calling his government the most corrupt, belittling and mocking his political acumen, his statesmanship and unfortunately belittling his achievements, and we think it is about time that somebody pointed out the real reason why President Rawlings can’t stop attacking the late Mills…and it be made known that the family takes strong exception to his comments…,” Cadman Mills added.

Cadman Mills further called on the public to bear with the family on this as they have had to take this drastic decision in order to preserve the memory of the former President.
