Woman 19 jailed for stealing baby

The convict said she was tormented by a spirit to replace her dead baby with another woman's baby

A sachet water seller has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for stealing a three month old baby.

Deborah Ansah 19 stole the baby girl at Avenor in Accra and sent her to Achiansa Nubesu near Suhum in the Eastern Region,

Detective Inspector Judith B who prosecuted the case said the complainant Aminatu  Alhassan lived with her husband and their three month old baby girl at Avenor.

Deborah  who lived in the same area  offered to assist Aminatu in catering for the baby.

On February 26, 2016 Aminatu after breastfeeding her baby went to sleep and left the baby in the care of Deborah who run away with the baby to her hometown Achiansa Nubesu .

According to Debora she was tormented by a spirit to replace her dead baby with the complainant’s baby.

The court presided over by Ruby Naa Adjeley Quaison who convicted Deborah on her plea, noted that, she had shown remorse.

She will  serve her sentence in the Juvenile Girls correctional Centre as ordered by the court.
