Boko Haram insurgents have killed 15 people in a remote community in Borno State, residents say.

The insurgents invaded Huyum, in the Askira-Uba area of the state on Monday, June 8, 2015, according to AFP.

Residents of the town are also said to have lost about 500 homes in the attack.

“The whole village was burnt by Boko Haram gunmen. We lost around 500 homes,” Bukar Zira, a fleeing resident, said.

“We have so far lost 15 people and one was injured. People in the whole village moved out to different parts of Borno and Adamawa,” he added.

“They completely burnt the whole village. Not a single home was spared,” another resident, Peter Malgwui said, supporting Zira’s account.

Nigeria’s army has in recent times scored a string of victories against the sect but Boko Haram seems to have intensified its attacks since the May 29 inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
