Industry subsidizing energy cost for households is misplaced- ACEP

Dr. Amin Adam believes government must prioritize industry in terms of energy provision and pricing as much as possible.

He echoed calls by the Association of Ghana Industries for industry’s cost of power to be reduced, challenging the rationale behind  the policy to charge industry more in order to subsidize households.

The Executive Director of ACEP emphasized the need for industry to be the biggest beneficiaries of power supply in the country.

“We have to reverse the trend.  Industry subsidizing power for households is not done anywhere. Providing  cheap power for industry must rather be the priority. This will enhance productivity, boost the economy and provide much needed revenue.”

Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam added that the high cost of energy for industry is one of the reasons why they are unable to compete with their counterparts elsewhere, like Ivory Coast.

“ The effect of this trend, if it should continue will be the collapse of our industries, because their products cannot compete with imports.”
