Africa StartUp Cup launched in Accra

The event will be attended by winners from 13 local startup cups from around Africa, and on Saturday April 30 present their businesses models to an international panel of judges.

The American embassy in Accra has launched the maiden edition of the African StartUp Cup today March 19 to be held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on April 29-30.

The event will be attended by winners from 13 local startup cups from around Africa, and on Saturday April 30 present their business models to an international panel of judges.

According to a speech read by Economic Counselor Jimmy Mauldin, three overall winners from the event will go on to compete in the World StartUp Cup in California to receive investment funds, mentoring, and business coaching from some of Silicon Valley’s top business leaders.

“The spirit of entrepreneurship is something very dear to president Obama, the US embassy here in Accra, and the American people back home in the United States,” Mauldin said. “:We are proud to have StartUp Cup as an official partner of the U.S State Department’s Global Entrepreneurship Program, an effort to promote and spur entrepreneurship around the world.”

StartUp Cup takes place annually in over 30 countries, according to Mauldin.
