Cargo truck drivers clash with security at Tema Port

The move, the drivers say was to resist an order from the Port’s authorities that they should stop sleeping inside and under their vehicles at the terminal.

There was tension at the Tema Port Monday night after some transit truck drivers who had loaded cargo from the Tema Port and en route to neighbouring countries picketed inside the transit terminal.

The drivers created a lot of confusion as they resisted 100 port security officials, police and the military.

The drivers argued that port authorities have failed to provide a sleeping place and washroom at the new park and they can't rent a place within their short stay.

Port officials were thus compelled to deploy more military officers by Tuesday 2am as the drivers pelted stones at the security officers.
