Is former AWA COO's accusation against Togbe Afede out of spite?

Reliable sources close to the Board Chairman and co-founder Togbe Afede has revealed that former MD of African World Airlines may be peddling falsehood about the chairman and Management because of his displeasure about the termination of his contract as COO for AWA.

Pulse Business earlier reported, based on sources close to Apiigy Afenu, that he had resigned from the local airline, African World Airlines following a rift between one of the airline’s directors and the co-founder of AWA Togbe Afede over some financial disagreements.

Shortly after the report went out, Africa World Airlines (AWA) came out to clarify the reports surrounding the exit of its former Chief Operations Officer Apiigy Afenu.

However, reliable sources close to the Board Chairman and co-founder Togbe Afede has revealed that the former Chief Operations Officer of African World Airlines may be peddling falsehood about the chairman and Management because of his displeasure about the termination of his contract as Chief Operations Officer of AWA.

The source also said explicitly, in an exclusive interview with Pulse Business, that Mr. Afenu's insinuation about alleged fallout on issues of financial mismanagement with Togbe Afede are completely false.

The source revealed that similar rumours went flying in the media when Apiigy Afenu resigned as board member of Accra Hearts of Oak.

In this story Joy Sports reported that Apiigy Afenu had been removed from the board of Accra Hearts of Oak because of disagreements with Togbe Afede's financial mismanagment.

So it appears that anytime Mr. Afenu is relieved of his post, allegations of poor financial management against the board chairman go flying, raising questions as to the credibility of these claims.

Pulse Business is also privy to the information that Mr. Afenu resigned from the board of Accra Hearts of Oak so he can concentrate on running African World Airlines.

So how sure are we that these are not just allegations made in spite?

The source told Pulse Business that Togbe Afede and the Management of AWA, decided not to make the grounds of Apiigy Afenu's contract termination open because of the good relationship that exists between the former COO and Togbe Afede.

However, AWA was forced to, and only found it necessary to release a statement when false allegations went rife in the media about the reasons why Mr. Afenu was relieved of his post.

According to the statement, allegations that Apiigy Afenu’s exit from the airline was due to a disagreement on financial matters between him and Togbe Afede was totally false and no rift existed between the two over any financial disagreements.

Meanwhile the airline has also denied earlier reports that Apiigy Afenu resigned from the company.

According to the airline it exercised its right to terminate the contract of Apiigy Afenu stating that Mr Afenu never tendered a resignation letter to AWA.
