This follows calls from the government for them to support the events to mark the anniversary. This will reduce the spending from the public purse.

In a response to the call, UMB has donated an amount of GHC 100,000 towards Ghana’s 60 Years Celebrations.

The amount would be given to the ultimate winner of the Jubilee Innovation Challenge, which was launched by the Minister of Information, Mr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid.

The target group for this challenge is the Ghanaian youth. All interested entrants are expected to develop mobile Apps that can be relevant to the Ghanaian way of doing things in everyday life and in the business sector.

The competition is opened to persons between the ages of 18 to 35 years. The Universal Merchant bank is providing a cash price of Ghc 100,000.00 for the overall winner.

The Chief Executive Officer of UMB, John Awuah, said “UMB is proud to be associated with a competition that provides a platform for Ghanaian youth to demonstrate to the world how innovative they could be."
