We are not privatizing ECG- U.S Ambassador

H.E Jackson sought to clarify the position of the MCC to the effect that the aim of the  commission is to see the efficiency of ECG and not the sale of the company.

ECG will continue to be public-owned and a possession of the people of Ghana.

“I have been using every opportunity to be clear that what we want is to help ECG to be successful. To do that we believe we need to bring in a private operator with innovative ideas that would assist the company.

But we are not supporting , we have not advocated, we do not advocate the privatization of ECG, ECG will continue to be a public utility owned by the people of Ghana and it would be operated for the people of Ghana that is the key point of the Millennium Challenge Corporation,” he told Accra based radio station, CITI FM.

However, the Public Utilities Workers’ Union have continued to mount pressure against the privatisation of the power distributor.

According to them, government will have to give up a lot under any kind of privatisation process. Government will either give away ownership in an outright takeover, or give away control in a concessionary arrangement.
