Food, shelter, cloting, medicine, jobs and wealth-  these are the undeniable and undebatable benefits of agriculture to individuals, societies and economies.

However, financing available for agricultural purposes are woefully inadequate in Ghana, where climate and land support all forms of agriculture.

The Agricultural Development Bank, as we have already established,  is the leading bank in Agric financing in Ghana, providing both long-term and short-term banking loans to farmers in Ghana.

Here are  the requirements to acquiring a loan at the ADB:

  1. Where required, the owners must obtain all relevant permits and certifications
  2.  Provision of some level of security but not necessarily physical assets
  3.  Where the business is new to the bank, promoters should prepare and present a simple     “business  plan” for the business. This could be a single sheet explaining the business concept
  4. Approval is assured once potential clients satisfy the bank of the aforementioned issues.

The Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank has allayed fears that the bank has shifted focus from agric financing to the provision of universal banking services.

With Mr. Asiedu’s background being a lot more in universal banking, there are some concerns that ADB’s emphasis on Agric would be sacrificed for universal banking services.

In an exclusive interview with Pulse.com.gh, Mr. Asiedu said the Agricultural Development Bank still places emphasis on financing agricultural activities, but has, as a strategy, prioritized universal banking services in order to meet the varied needs of the Ghanaian Banking sector.

“No. Its not like there is a special emphasis on Universal banking, ADB is just trying to serve all parts of the economy, and providing all services that will lead to greater satisfaction of the banking community, he said.
