Don't pay illegal increased fares charged by drivers - GRTCC tells commuters
The General Secretary of the GRTCC Andrews Kwakye said even though some commercial drivers have increased their fares illegally the commuters must insist that the right thing is done.

The General Secretary of the Council Andrews Kwakye said they will determine the new price after they hold one of their bi-annual meeting on March 30, 2017.
He told Accra-based Citi FM that they will take a decision at the meeting.

Some commercial drivers have increased their fares illegally but the Council is entreating the commuters to insist that the right thing is done. Kwakye said the commuters must continue paying the normal fares until an announcement is made for a change in fares.
“The practice is that we come out with the official price of the road transport office. All that is happening in the system means that they [the new fares] are all illegal. They were not supposed to increase their fares without our consent.”
Meanwhile, the GRTCC has urged circuit operators and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), to call the drivers who are flouting the rules to order.

“By now, the task-force from GPRTU must have moved to the various stations we have identified as having increased their fares, and they are going to work and probably let them come back to the old fares that they were charging,” Kwakye said.

He also added that GRTCC is “doing some bit of enforcement to bring the situation under control.”
