Ghana's Energy Crisis Current blackouts to intensify

Instead of the usual 90 million standard cubic feet of gas supplied to the VRA,  daily for the generation of power, the GNGC is only able to supply 45 million standard cubic feet of gas.

The current erratic power supply in the country is set to worsen as gas supply from the Ghana National Gas Company to the Volta River Authority reduces.

The Ghana National Gas Company had to reduce gas supply to the Aboadze power enclave due to a sharp cut in the supply of natural gas from the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah, run by Tullow Oil.

Head of Communications of Ghana Gas Alfred Ogbamey made this promise based on assurances given by  Tullow Oil.

“They have had a significant reduction of the recent maximum of 85 million standard cubic feet of gas they were giving us to 46.7 million standard cubic feet of gas. Following which we are giving VRA 46 million standard cubic feet of gas. This is due to production challenges they are having onshore due to bad weather conditions.” he stated.

Mr. Ogbamey added that “Tullow has made it clear to us that they are looking to resolve the issue by July 14, that’s weekend.”
