Food processing modules introduced in rural communities

The sector minister, Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah, made this known at an orientation workshop on REP for municipal and districts in Sunyani.

The workshop, attended by municipal and district chief executives, coordinating directors and finance officers, was to brief participants on the outcome of the recent mid-term review of the REP.

According the minister, REP is among numerous interventions the government is rolling out to address poverty in rural Ghana.

He charged beneficiary districts of the programme to be innovative and identify the needs of its people and request funding from the co-ordination and management unit.

Spio Garbrah also called on Ghanaians to reduce their appetite for foreign goods in other to stimulate economic growth.

“As a nation, we need to all work to reduce this reduce this pressure and grow a strong foreign exchange reserve to stimulate economic growth, he said.

REP through its Rural Technology Facilities in 161 districts now processes raw cassava cocoa beans, oil palm, shea and cashew, Spio Garbrah said.
