Dr Tran said the figure represents 18 percent of the country’s annual maize production.
He attributed the losses to the poor drying methods adopted by the farmers. He said most farmers failed to dry their maize thoroughly before storage. This he said leads to insects attacking the maize.
He implored the government to educate farmers on best farming and post-harvesting practices to reduce such losses.
