Government has said it is developing a national policy that will streamline activities in LPG production, transportation and use in a safe and standardised market.

This is because about 50 percent of Ghanaians are expected to have access to and use LPG by 2020.Speaking at the first Ghana International Petroleum Conference in Accra, Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur said expectation of government is for the private sector to invest in new LPG infrastructure to increase access and availability of the product, especially in rural areas. He said the proposed new market structure for LPG in the policy would also require the setting up of a number of major re-filling plants in the country. He asked private sector to collaborate with the government in this area.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur further indicated government is making the necessary arrangements to settle its indebtedness to the Bulk Oil Distribution Companies.According to the Vice President, failure to settle the indebtedness will have a huge impact on the liquidity situation of the commercial banks.

He said payment will be effected as soon as the validation of the debt is completed.
