Bawumia breaks ground for new cement factory under ‘1-District-1-Factory’

The initiative, which is a joint venture between Ghana and the Iranian government with the latter owning 90 percent shares, is expected to be completed within a period of two years.

The $30 million Cement factory will be located at Dawa Industrial City in Accra, and it falls under the Akufo-Addo administration’s One-District-One-Factory programme.

The agreement for the construction of the factory was signed when the Dr. Bawumia visited Iran in August 2017, for the inauguration of Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani.

Dr. Bawumia said the factory “will create the needed competition in the industry to reduce the unit cost of cement for the ordinary Ghanaian.”

The factory is also to boost Ghana’s infrastructure and industrial development.
