Job market looking for skilled workers

According to the president, technical and vocational education has a huge potential of "enhancing economic productivity and social transformation has not been exploited to its fullest extent."

 

"The job market today is looking for skilled, practical and technical personnel, he said. "The economic strength of a country is inextricably linked to the skills and competences of its worforce; and the skills and competences are bountifully supplied by well-resourced technical universities."

President Mahama added that the Technical Universities Bill which is at the cabinet level will be passed at the next sitting of Parliament and in the academic year starting 2016/2017.

The president said the Cape Coast and the Tamale Polytechnics are being reassessed to be added to the six already approved institutions ready to be converted into technical universities.

Dr. Mba Atinga, Chairman of Rectors of Polytechnic said the technical university will strength its relationship with the industries.

"Technical University will also strengthen our relationship with the industries - this change will bring positive corresponding change in the manufacturing sector."
