Ghana is set to experience frequent cut in power supply as there is limited lean gas supply to the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas).

Many homes experienced power outages on Tuesday, and in some homes, power is yet to be restored.

In a statement, the Ministry of Power said the limited supply of lean gas has lasted for two days as a result of operational challenges from the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant.

"The Thermal Plant at Aboadze power plant is receiving a limited supply of lean gas from the Ghana National Gas Company over the last two days," the statement said. "This it says is as a result of operational challenges at the Atuabo Gas Processing plant.”

“Engineers of the power ministry are keenly monitoring the situation and may eventually switch all dual fuel plants to light crude in the coming days should the situation persist,” the statement added.

Deputy Minister of Power, John Jinapor said engineers are working to fix the problem and restore power to affected homes.

“I have spoken to VRA and the other engineers and they are making frantic efforts to bring in some plants. For instance we intend running both units of KTPP on diesel but the objective is to try as much as possible to close the deficit as much as possible," he said on Citi FM

It is unclear how the latest development will affect power supply in the coming days but Ghana Gas has confirmed it is receiving half of its normal supply.
