Ricketts-Hagan displayed two containers of sugar from the factory as evidence that the factory is working.

The display of the products was a subtle criticism of the opposition New Patriotic Party who questioned the viability of the factory after it emerged that the factory was shut down two days after it was commissioned by the president.

The 35 million factory came to life through an Indian Exim Bank Loan and will require 1,300 sugarcane daily.

Ricketts-Hagan said government was committed to reviving collapsed factories and building new ones to create thousands jobs.

The bags of sugar were packaged in white sacks with inscription "Komenda Sugar Company Limited LTD, White Sugar, 50kg, Made in Ghana."

The company is expected to shut down for routine maintenance later this month and resume operation in November.
