Circle fire did not start at Goil - Committee

Justice Isaac Duose has stated that it was difficult to establish that fact but stressed that “it definitely did not start from here.”

Presidential committee set up to investigate June 3 disaster

The committee investigating the June 3 disaster has revealed that contrary to widespread reports, the fire outbreak at the Goil fuel station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle started elsewhere.

Over 150 persons who were seeking shelter at the station lost their lives after heavy downpour which caused devastating floods Accra.

A five-member committee was set up by President John Mahama to establish the cause of the fire on June 3, 2015.

Contrary to several eyewitnesses who have stated that the fire was sparked by a lightening or a generator at the filling station, the chairman of the committee, Justice Isaac Douse said preliminary findings indicate the fire started from elsewhere.

“The National Petroleum Authority and other relevant authorities including GOIL; the owners are taking the measurements to make their calculations”.
