20-year-old driver charged with murder of two expats at Akwamufie

Yaw Anokye Frimpong, a 20-year-old driver has been charged with the murder of two African-Americans at Akwamufie in Akosombo in the Eastern region, in May 2015.

He, however, confessed to have killed the two expats and also demonstrated to the police how he murdered the two sisters at Akwamufie before burying them few meters from their home.

The two deceased people Mamlena, 75, and 69-year-old Nzinga were kidnapped, murdered and buried in a shallow grave.

Their bodies were exhumed after Acting President of the Akwamu Traditional Council dispatched over 70 people to complement a police search for the two when it became apparent they had gone missing.

According to the Daily Graphic, the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police Mr Prosper K. Agblor, said Anokye was charged based on the advice of the Attorney- General’s (A-G’s) Department.

After the CID had completed its investigations, he said, a duplicate docket on the case was forwarded to the A-G’s Department on August 12, 2015.

After three months of studying the facts, Mr Agblor said, the A-G, on November 18, 2015, advised the CID to charge Frimpong with murder, since there was sufficient evidence to do so.

The charge statement, Mr Agblor explained, was to enable the A-G to prepare a bill of indictment and summary of evidence for Frimpong to stand trial at the High Court.
