All you need to know about Ghana’s acting IGP

He was involved in investigating the disappearance of 77 parcels of cocaine. David Asante-Apeatu has also served at the Sarajevo Police Academy in Bosnia and Herzegovina under the auspices of the United Nations.

President Nana Akufo-Addo has named COP David Asante-Apeatu as the new Inspector General of Police.

Asante-Apeatu takes over barely hours after John Kudalor went to the Flagstaff House to bid farewell to the president. The IGP comes into office with a commendable work record within the Ghana Police Service and outside the country.

Before this role, he was the Director General (Research and Planning) at the Ghana Police Service. He has previously served as the head of the influential Criminal and Investigations Department.

Asante-Apeatu’s exploits in Ghana led to a call up to Interpol’s headquarters in Lyon, France where he was appointed Director of Specialised Crimes and Analysis.

According to his LinkedIn account, he has Master’s degree in Chemestry from the Kharkov State University, a certificate in General Management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and a certificate in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Virginia.

High profile cases

The new IGP has been involved in investigating several high-profile cases that have and continue to shape Ghanaian society. They include the murder of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani, overlord of Dagbon, the murder of Roko Frimpong, the deputy head of the Ghana Commercial Bank and the serial killing of over 30 women in Accra.
